Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 – Wild Card Entry Special Review

The Wild Card special of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5, started with a dancing Manish and Ragini as the host. Later, not able to impress the Judges they shifted to a dramatic ‘Shyarana’ style making us confident that this episode of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 the Nautanki quotient will definitely be high.

The Wild Card 6 contestants were introduced as follows:

  • Mr.cool – Jai Soni with Bhavna Purohit

  • Every family’s hot favourite – Rashmi Desi Sandhu with Deepak

Neha Bhasin – Hot Singer and Performer.

First question – what was she wearing, it made her look like a fit fat girl… but what is worn is worn. She tapped her foot on a mix of ‘crazy kiya re’ music and ‘dhunki’s’ lyrics with confidence. It was a graceful power pact performance including the booty shake.

The best part of Neha’s performance was her expressions and the interaction with the audience by winking. Even Remo agreed with this, he said that “that usually hip hop is done with blank expression to concentrate on steps but here her face was as active as the steps. If the gaps between lifts have been fulfilled it would have been a better performance.

The Booty shake became Madhuri’s hot favourite from Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5, Remo enjoyed Neha’s winking and Karan went ahead and said that it was an exceptionally spirited performance and Katrina even did not have these expressions…

Hard for singers to sell individual work: Neha Bhasin

Yahoo News 28th July

New Delhi, July 28 (IANS) Singer Neha Bhasin, who has recently released her new single “Tera mera”, says it has become harder to sell one’s individual work in times when Bollywood has taken over non-film music.

“Solo music albums have almost diminished now. Non-film music does not make much money nowadays. It used to at one time. It is only Bollywood music that sells now,” Bhasin, who has sung popular Bollywood numbers like “Dhunki” and “Kuchh khaas hai”, told IANS.

“Even if you are a known Bollywood singer, it does not give you enough opportunity to release your own stuff. It is not easy. The medium has changed, and digital platforms are used more now,” she added.

Born and brought up in Delhi, Bhasin’s golden opportunity came in 2001 when she was among the winners of Channel V’s music talent hunt show “Popstars”, and got the chance to be part of India’s first official girl band Viva! with the other four winners.

The group split sometime later and Neha then stepped into playback singing with 2005 film “Bullet”.

The singer is now geared to shake a leg in dance reality show “Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa 5″. She is coming on the show as a prospective contestant through a wild card format, wherein six people, including actors like Jay Soni, Rashmi Desai, Avika Gor, Karan Wahi and Rithvik Dhanjani, will compete to get a direct entry into the ongoing show.

The singer admits she is enjoying her dance rehearsals.

“I have always liked dancing and during my college days I was known for both singing and dancing. I am not the best dancer and can’t call myself one, but yes, dancing has always been something that I enjoy,” she said.

“Both the art forms require a lot of dedication, so I left dancing and took music as a career option,” she added.

The 29-year-old, who took training in dance years back, is excited to explore the “hidden and sleeping dancer” in her with “Jhalak…”

“I am already busy in my career and can’t give much time to dancing, but ‘Jhalak…’ has given me an opportunity to explore the hidden and sleeping dancer inside me,” said Neha.

An exclusive interview with Neha Bhasin

MTV Exclusive Interview 26th July 2012

“Life goes in phases, I’ve played sexy when I felt hot, I’ve played angry when I felt life sucked and now I feel loving and beautiful, hence, Tera Mera came along”

Young, talented and passionate, Neha Bhasin embodies the essence of the Indian Music Industry. She was part of India’s first pop girl band – Viva, the band that made an entry in the Limca book of records for being the first debut band to pull in over 50,000 thousand people for their first concert. After the band split up, Neha took to playback singing. She has delivered hits such as “Kuch Khass Hai” and “Dhunki”, she also took the Southern Film Industry by storm giving blockbusters one after the other. Neha has always been perceived as the sensuous, sassy girl but she wanted to break away from that image and show her fans a glimpse of who she really is.

After the success of her first album Tabaah, Neha is now ready with her next single, Tera Mera. Tera Mera is a song of two friends who fall in love with each other. Neha believes that the music scene in India needs simple and melodious love songs and this is her way of bringing love back into fashion.

Here’s an exclusive interview with the extremely talented and stellar, Neha Bhasin.

1) You were part of India’s first girl band. How did you make the transition from a reality show star to a national icon?

My Journey has been gradual and beautiful. I followed my heart for most parts, shirked away opportunities I didn’t like and embraced the ones I did.

Decisions weren’t always easy and people often called me a dreamer but I guess following your heart leads the way. Hence the transition from a girl band to now happened.

2) You were known as the Viva Girl for the longest time, how did you shed that ‘pop stars’ image?

It was very tough initially as I did not exist for people or the industry. Post Viva, pop music started dying out and I became disheartened and lost as to what next.

First the Tamil Industry picked me up, gave me love and awards and then Bollywood, slowly I got my confidence back and won hearts of my fans with my album Tabaah.

It has been a rocky road but a lovely one.

3) Viva was an immensely popular brand with an astounding fan following. What caused the band to split?

We were young, too famous too fast the channel and us both didn’t know how to capitalize it and we met our own demise.

4) You are a trained dancer and have given performances across the globe, what comes first for you, dancing or singing?

Yes it’s been a while I haven’t trained, I love dancing and prepping for the Jhalak Dikhla Ja wild card entry reminds me how much I miss it but it also reminds me why I could not pursue singing and dancing. Both art forms require time, commitment and dedication. My first love is was and will be singing.

5) How did playback singing happen for you? You have worked with the biggest composers in the industry and bagged several awards, including a Filmfare, how has that changed you as an Artist?

Playback happened slowly and people loved my songs. Kuch Khass hai is still a song people love, Dhunki won hearts too. I feel very touched.

Nominations and awards make me more humble, make me feel accepted and validate that my life is worth it that I left home and my family at a young age and that has not gone waste.

6) You have lent your voice to several Tamil Blockbusters, as a singer, how difficult is it to adapt to a language you don’t know?

Music simplifies a lot of things, yes singing in languages is challenging but I love singing in Tamil and Telugu.

The love I Got down south is tremendous; it gave me a ray of hope when I had none.

7) You were always popularized as the sensuous singer, why the abrupt shift to a mellow romantic number like Tera Mera?

Life goes in phases, I’ve played sexy when I felt hot, I’ve played angry when I felt life sucked and now I feel loving and beautiful, hence, Tera Mera came along.

8) What is the story behind Tera Mera? Does the inspiration come from your life?

Most of my songs that I write come from my real inspiration (laughs); I will leave it at that

9) Is this song a dedication to someone in particular?

It’s a dedication to Love and all my true fans. My fans are the best, they started as small community and today they support me more than I can imagine.

10) What is your message to all the friends turned lovers out there?

To fall in love with a friend can be the best thing that can happen to anyone.

Hot Neha Bhasin releases “TERA MERA”

Indian Show Business 26th July

India’s coveted glam-girl popstar, Neha Bhasin is breaking new grounds in her latest musical offering called “Tera Mera”. This single romanticizes with the idea of bridging breakups in love by relapsing back to a cherished friendship. Shot entirely in black and white, it shot with the camera whose popularity has diminished. Ask Neha about reviving the black & white look and she says “Love like life is black & white, also with this love song I wanted to bring in a retro feel which would only be possible with a monochromatic feel. Every black & white photo I see of yester-years, be it mine or friends or family, there is beautiful feeling about it and that’s the feeling I was aiming at.” Tera Mera tries to project a contrasting perspective of experiencing happiness despite the turbulence of a broken heart. The underlying theme is to convey the message of liberation from love in a relationship sailing over rough seas to ultimately set anchor on friendship where the same love blooms.

Neha’s beautiful & romantic lyrics come from her feeling in love. To add another element from yester-years they have incorporated the very popular musician “Kishore Sodha” playing the trumpet. This again is a phenomenon which has been dimishing on the music map and they have tried to revive it. Another aspect Neha has been focussing on is pop music which she wants to bring back to India.

Stepping out of her Apple Bottoms avatar to don a subtle and a more romantic appearance, Neha has considered Tera Mera as a breakthrough opportunity to realize her own capabilities as a versatile artist and show her fans a different side to her personality. “Tera Mera is a song that so many of us can relate to because it talks about the next step beyond friendship not really working out but there are no hard feelings in admitting to it. It is a peppy song with a very modern feel to it.”, says Neha.

A virtual music concert

Vaishali Bhambri, Hindustan Times
New Delhi, March 01, 2012

No crowd management, no security hassles and no stage     settings, but guess what, it’s still a concert where more than 50  popular musicians will be performing. In a unique phenomenon in itself, a webcert will see the artists performing for a digital audience. Being organised by

ArtistAloud.com, a digital platform for independent music, this webcert aims to become the longest webcert ever. “A webcert is very different from a concert. Since there is no live audience, the biggest challenge is to capture the attention of the virtual audience for the desired time,” says Soumini Paul, AVP, ArtistAloud.com.

The webcert will see musicians such as Shilpa Rao, Neha Bhasin, Ankur Tiwari, and Harshdeep Kaur among others perform their favourite numbers. “Each artist will perform a solo song of their choice. We have asked them to perform to numbers from their personal albums,” says Paul.

The nine-hour long webcert will be streamed live on the website of the organisers, who are celebrating March 2 as Music Day. “I  have done webcerts before. They are more like performing for the TV,” says singer Neha Bhasin, former member of Indian pop girl band — Viva! Bhasin will be performing her number — Tabaah.

Interestingly, the viewers can also tweet and Facebook chat with the artists during the performance. “It’s interesting to reach out to people, who are physically not present. If someone enjoys your music, they will log on to listen to you. It’s as simple as that,” says singer Shilpa Rao, who will be performing her number Saiyaan Re from the movie Salaam-E-Ishq.

Neha Bhasin to roll out debut music album ‘Tabaah’ – RadioAndMusic.com

MUMBAI: After impressing the audience with her vocal skills in films, singer, writer and performer Neha Bhasin is all set to woo her fans with the launch of her solo debut music album titled ‘Tabah’.

On coming up with her new album Bhasin said, “Tabaah is not just an album. It’s consists of the two important facets of me, ‘Neha the person’ and ‘Neha Bhasin the artiste’. It is all about opposites – black and the white, happy and sombre, demure the aggressive. The songs in this album are a journey from my bad breakup to finding self, to learning to let go, to learning to live again and that too gloriously. This album is just me and it’s that part of that lives in every youth today.”

The album is produced and composed by Gaurav Dayal who has also composed music for several Punjabi tracks including Jassi’s evergreen club hit ‘Dil Le Gai Kudi’. He is assisted by guest composer Saibal Basu. The album consists of nine tracks out of which six are written by the pop singer herself. “Writing has been my hobby since I was a child. Hence I decided to pen down lyrics for my album,” revealed the husky voiced singer whose journey in the world of music kicked-off when she was just nine years old.

‘Apple Bottoms’ is the first single that will be going on air this October. International brand Reebok has collaborated with Bhasin to promote the track.

Being a Hip Hop track ‘Apple Bottoms’ is a beat driven song and the rap portion of this track is written by ‘Abstract Method’, two American rappers of Indian origin.

“Apple Bottoms is an uninhibited fun anthem for all those girls who love themselves! The swanky video is shot in Ukraine and exhibits my true spirit a performer,” said the ‘Kuch Khaas Hai’ singer.

The singer said that her album caters to the sensibilities of today’s young girls who belong to the age group of 12 to 35 years.

‘Tabah’ will be releasing around 15-16 October under New Delhi based boutique music label ‘Beatfactory’ owned by Bhasin and Dayal. The singer will be touring various parts of the country for promoting her album.

Though film music is the flavour of the day, Bhasin wants to explore genres beyond Bollywood. “I definitely wish to be an established singer in Bollywood as it gives me a vast platform to reach the Indian audience. But it doesn’t stop here. I wish to become an international singer and tour the entire world with my music. Working in  Bollywood is like doing a job. You are paid and your work is done. But when you perform live and create your own album, the entire creativity is just yours. You own it,” said Bhasin who was also honored with Vijay TV award for the best playback singer for her debut Tamil song ‘Pesugiren Pesugiren’ in 2007.Talking about her upcoming projects she said, “I am currently recording a song for Vipul Shah’s untitled film which stars actor John Abraham.”

Recently, Bhasin also became the first Indian female singer to endorse Sennheiser, the leading German brand for audio equipments. The trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, singer Lucky Ali and music director Sandeep Chowta are among the other endorsers of the brand.

Neha Bhasin makes it big on her own – RagatoRock.com

Neha Bhasin popularly known as the Indian Diva from the all girl pop group VIVA, that sold six lakh copies of their first album titled ‘Viva’, is back after the band split in 2004, with her first ever debut solo album.

In a tete a tete Neha pours out her heart on her past and what the future holds for her.

When VIVA split in 2004, why did you not think on a solo career and release an album as a soloist as you already had a name for yourself.
Because it’s a big battle in a nation consumed by film music and suppressing any other medium of expression. I knew it will be a battle. I will have to face and make sure I have the right backing to make a mark again, besides having a great album. Hence when I got Reebok to sponsor my video to co – promote their shoe easy tone I knew it was time.

Films was an easy entry after your pop career. Was it due to the breaking up of the band that you took to films or because the offers came in?
Films was not an easy entry at all actually. The band ‘Viva’ was a great platform and
made us famous as a band not individually. Most musicians take to films because right now it is the only accepted medium.

How come you have decided to release a brand new album after over 6 years?
Because if I die tonight I’d die doing what I love doing, my own music, music videos, the glit the glamour, the love and affection of your listeners. India needs more than cliche and I will give them that as I am fearless of the consequences henceforth. My channel on youtube.com has over 1 lakh views. My video ‘AppleBottoms’ alone having 25,000 views in one week. There is an audience and if media won’t give me a platform I will create one for myself.

How did you get the Sennheiser deal? What is it all about?
I am a fan of Sennheiser specially their microphones. I am endorsing Sennheiser and now I have my own customized microphone, a chrome finish with my initials NB embossed on it gifted to me by them. I am their first Indian female artiste.

You have released the album on an independent label. How did this come about?
Independent label because I wanted to have control over every aspect of my product and how it is put forth. Today labels promise the moon and not really do anything for you. Music has to be passion driven first and then great strategies for its marketing.

Is the label your own and do you plan to release and help new artists on your label?
The label is Gaurav Dayal’s. He is the music producer of my album. He is already helping other Punjabi artistes too and some of them very talented. In whatever way I can help open doors for new talent I would always extend my support.

What is the sound of the album like……(pop, indi – pop, bollywood, hip hop}
’Tabaah’ my album is swinging between pop rock and pop dance. ‘Apple bottoms’ is my first release a hip hop track, very beat driven with catch hook lines whereas ‘Tabaah’ the self titled track is a grunge pop rock song with aggressive production and vocals. I have love for both rock and dance so I have explored them evidently in the album. My album is an expression of who I am…. Neha the person and Neha Bhasin the artiste.

Who has done the lyrics for the songs and what do the songs talk about?
Most of the lyrics are penned down by me and are about my experiences. ‘Apple Bottoms’ is the celebration of ones body, being and beauty. A sort of a fun anthem. ‘Tabaah’ is a song about a jilted heart rising above self destruction and finding oneself again. ‘Khwaish’ talks about the helplessness or desire to move on positively from
hurtful experience in love. The album is very autobiographical in lyrics, content, straight from the heart and uninhibited.

Who have you collaborated……composers…lyricists, etc with on this album?
The album is a joint effort between Gaurav Dayal and me, we have a guest producer Saibal basu who produced one of my compositions and composed one track. We have a Punjabi S. Mukhtiyar for ‘Haaniya’, Roop johri wrote the lyrics of ‘Neela Aasma’ and Kavi Varman wrote the Tamil version of ‘Apple Bottoms’.

Any guests artists?
There are two young rappers from Philadelphia who rapped on ‘Apple Bottoms’.

Any more music videos besides ‘Apple bottoms’ ?
Yes ‘Tabaah’ the video is ready and we will release soon. It’s a song and video to
look out for.

Is the album part of your life experiences?
Yes it is an extension of me and ‘Tabaah’ started with me feeling the need to express myself

Do you stay in touch with the rest of the VIVA girls?
No

Will there be reunion of the band anytime?
Nope

What are you presently working on right now..Bollywood, Tollywood, besides
promoting the album?
I have a film ‘Muriyadi’ in Tamil that I sang for and featured in the video and I
have sung for Vipul Shah’s next film untitled, its a remake of a famous Tamil
film ‘Kaaka kaaka’ in Hindi.

With CDs sales at an all time low, is there any download where one can sample your album?
You can buy the album on my website www.nehabhasin.com or on nokia store http://music.ovi.com/in/en/pc/Product/Neha-Bhasin/Tabaah/13059452.

Soon it will be up on I tunes & tune core too.. For mobiles http://wap.mobiletashan/tabaah.

To watch my videos visit my channel on You tube

http://www.youtube.com/user/nehabhasin

What response are you expecting from this album, given that there are scores of female artists releasing albums and also giving free downloads?
I am hoping to break the clutter & already am with over 50,000 views on www. indiatimes.com and 25,000 on www.youtube.com Channels like UTV, Bindaas, Masti and ETC, Zing are playing my video when today no pop album is being aired.

Coming to your personal life, are you seeing anyone/ married?
No am definitely not getting married and I like too many boys to tie myself down.

Do you play any musical instrument?
I play a bit of keys.
